A fierce hurricane was whipping in the Gulf of Mexico, getting bigger with every second.
Chaos ensued as we began boarding windows and battening down the hatches. By battening down the hatches, I mean running to the grocery store in search of life-saving provisions. When I came back with only one box of crackers, I knew things were going to be very bad.
My husband called from work and told me to pack a few days of clothes for myself and the babies. He was taking me up to my aunts in Atlanta for a few days. Being an electrician at a college, he had to work the hurricane, and by work, I mean try and stay alive.
Our city was devastated.
The kids and I were gone for two weeks and when we returned, I did not even recognize our street. The Red Cross was still knocking on my door asking if we needed food or water.
God bless the Red Cross.
We had eleven thousand dollars worth of damage to our house and we were the lucky ones. The woman directly across the street lost her entire house.
The funny thing is, if there can be a funny thing in the face of such devastation, we had a giant live oak tree right in front of our house. It broke in half – half fell on our house and the other half fell on car that was sitting in the driveway with its guts taken out
No more car.
And I said, “See, I told you I had that dream.”
God not only gave me a measure of peace before our car was killed, but He provided another one before we even had the need.
Our God is a very good God.
When He speaks to you, listen. It may save you a lot of heartache later on.
God provided for your safety and I am so glad that He gave you the perspective to see the blessing that came from this harrowing situation!
God is very good and I am glad that you all are alright! You can replace stuff. 🙂
What an amazing story! I love that you are doing the 31Days post!
