Heart of A War Bride

Today I am linking with a Mom2MemphisAndRuby for Thrifty Finds Link Party. Hope over and see lots of other great finds...after you read this post and see mine. ;-) My name is Ade Johnson.  I was born in Brooklyn, New York  on a warm summer's night in 1920.  I am the oldest of four children, three of us girls and my brother, Patrick.  He was drafted nine months ago and his last letter arrived in October, eighty-three days without correspondance.  My mother sits in her room and cries for hours.  My sister's can't understand her melancholy, but I know. Now, I do know. I met Jim at … [Read more...]

Oh Vanity of Vanities – Fiction Friday Revived

audrey hepburn

You may need a little background before you read this excerpt from my larger work of fiction (still very much in progress).  I drew inspiration from my own bad hair cut, wrote about it, and continued the story line.  It's all purely fiction, but you can gain a little understanding if you go back and read about my bad hair cut.  Then you'll understand where this entry picks up. Not My Life is the story of a pastor's wife, Patty, who believes privacy is for fitting rooms and confessionals.  She wants to share her story with the world, even if it's sometimes at the expense of her … [Read more...]

Fiction Friday – Picture This

judy garland

“For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul.”  ~ Judy Garland  Chapter 4  Tony sat on a park bench, far enough away not to get in the way, but close enough to see the curve of Lacy’s bottom in her designer jeans.  This isn’t the Lacy I know, but I sure do like her, he thought. Lacy became another woman when she had her camera in hand.  Usually shy and quiet, she directed the three boys in active play, running after them and capturing spontaneous fun with click after click of her camera.  She must have taken two … [Read more...]

Fiction Friday, 10th Edition – It’s all I’ve got

flipflopsonporch1960s

I didn't think this was good enough to show you last week and sadly, I haven't changed one little word in it all week.  I haven't even read over it.  So, forgive me for giving you the rough and undone.  It's all I've got. Chapter 3 continued from week 8... “One of Mason’s boys gave me the address.  Since you wouldn’t answer your phone, I had to come tell you the news in person, and it wasn’t easy.  The traffic on the Whitestone Bridge cost me nearly two hours and a quarter tank of gas.” “What news?”  She asked, pulling herself to a sitting position.  The thought … [Read more...]

Writing Inspiration – Fiction Friday #9

Today is Fiction Friday, but I'll be honest, I'm not ready to share any more of my fiction.  It's just not where it should be.  It's riddled with mistakes and I don't have the time to fix it right now.  I haven't written anything on my work in progress (WIP) in almost a month.  Isn't that terrible? I'm trying not to freak out over it.  There will be other times to write, but currently life is getting in the way a bit.  It has a little to do with the kids not having any schoolwork to do and a lot to do with the sunshine.  I just want to be outside and feel the warmth of the sun burn … [Read more...]

Fiction Friday: They Found the Murder Weapon

“There is no rule more invariable than that we are paid for our suspicions by finding what we suspect.”  ~ Henry David Thoreau Chapter 3 Lacy looked over to her purse sitting in the front passenger seat of her Wrangler.  She heard its’ incessant ringing and debated taking the call, but she wasn’t in the mood for conversation today.  She just wanted to make it back to New York before dinner.  She knew she needed to put distance between herself and Littlefield.  She needed space to think, to decide what to do next. She turned on the radio.  Sounds from Stone Temple Pilots … [Read more...]

Baked Potatoes & Exotic Vacations – Fiction Friday 6th Edition

I'm continuing the story, It's Not My Life, from last week.  If you've been reading my blog for any length of time, you'll recognize that I'm weaving truth and fiction very closely.  I'm still not sure it's a great idea, but many of you seemed to enjoy, so here's page 2.  Hope everyone has a sunshiny weekend! ************* March 15, 2012 Crazy Acres is glowing a fine shade of no-slime chlorine blue.  Unfortunately my face is also glowing, a nuclear burnout red. At first I thought adding extra insulation to the house was a good energy-efficient idea, but I’m having second … [Read more...]

Fiction Friday – 5th Edition – Not My Life

Today I decided to share something different.  I once had the idea of weaving truth with fiction and creating a novel about a woman married to a pastor who began secretly blogging her life.  I thought it would be a light, funny book; however, I soon discovered it had no plot.  Books need plots.  Also, mixing truth with fiction can only get me into trouble.  I had visions of an army full of church people hunting me down and burning me at the stake. After only a few words, I scrapped the idea.  Today I am resurrecting my few words and introducing you to the plotless and possibly … [Read more...]
