I’ve never outgrown playing dress-up. As a child, I remember going through my aunt’s closet and trying on her shoes. I’d wobble around the house, like a newborn calf, in three-inch spikes. Then, I’d go put on my grandma’s plastic beads, and find a scarf or two to toss around my neck.
When my little girl was a toddler, she’d click-clack around the house in her plastic princess shoes. She’d put my straw beach hat on her head and wrap a pink polka-dot scarf around her neck. She reminded me of all those times I played dress-up in my aunt’s closet.
Now my daughter “borrows” my clothes and wears them to church and school. On a rare occasion, she’ll let me pretend she’s still my little girl, and she’ll let me dress her up however I want.
This past Halloween, I talked her into being “My Little Deer.”
I’ve been playing around with paper crafts for a few years, but this fall, my craft has turned into a bit of a hobby (some might say obsession). I opened an Etsy shop called Bloxom Blooms, and I’m so excited about it.
I love that on a dreary, gray, winter day, I can still make it bloom.
The day before Halloween, she came home from school, and we sat outside around the fire pit. I just couldn’t help but see this vision of her wearing a paper flower hat with paper antlers. Some mothers have visions of their child being a doctor, lawyer, or the president, but on this autumn afternoon in Virginia, I saw my little girl playing dress-up, just one more time.
Okay, I’m lying. We’re going to play dress-up again and again and again, if I have my way. There’s plenty of time to grow-up and prepare to be that doctor or lawyer, or maybe even president.
I made another Little Deer Hat for my Etsy shop. I thought you might want to play dress-up with your little girl, and have as much fun as we did.
The hat is made of 100% paper. Each flower has one bead in the center, and a ribbon closure on the back. This hat is perfect for photo sessions and play.
I hope my daughter and I never outgrow playing dress-up, because I see many paper hats in our future!
