1 Dress Worn 7 Ways
In this post, I will show how you can invest twenty bucks into buying one basic dress and then wear it seven different ways.
I wish all my clothes were this versatile.
I’ll also be adding this to The Pleated Poppy’s What I Wore Wednesday.
Style #1
I bought this Target dress back in September. I checked the store’s website and it is no longer available, however, these black and white striped dresses are in just about every store I go into. You can find them at almost every price point.
I do not spend a lot of money on trendy pieces of clothes, because let’s face it, this dress will be out of style soon.
Thankfully with stores like Target and Old Navy, you can buy a trendy dress for $20-$30 dollars and wear it out.
Style #2
In this style, I paired my basic dress with black tights, heeled boots, and a jacket. I would wear this outfit to work. I think it’s office acceptable and still in-style.
The jacket is Kohl’s, but I’ve had it two days fewer than forever, so I cannot provide a link for you. Same with these boots.
A few years ago, I wore this jacket constantly, but I had to dust off the shoulders for this picture. I think I just got tired of it.
Style #3
I simply put a Chambray shirt over the dress. I might try this look with brown boots, but I was changing quicker than Superman between shots, so there wasn’t much time to think.
My Chambray shirt is a hand-me-down, but you can find one anywhere. They are popular right now. Maybe you are even lucky enough to have one left over from the 80′s.
Kidding. Just kidding.
Style #4
This is one of my favorite ways to wear this dress. I think it’s the mustard sweater – I just love it!
Sweater: Target, Necklace: I haven’t got a clue. Sorry.
Style 5
This is definitely a perfect way to wear this for winter.
I switched out the tights for thicker leggings (GAP) and added my favorite owl sweater from Kohl’s.
Style #6
If I didn’t hate vests, I might like this outfit.
The vest is a hand-me-down, but I honestly do not wear it. I do think this makes a perfectly acceptable outfit though. It looks fine together.
Style #7
Ok friends, I hate this look. Hate it! But in the spirit of full disclosure, I decided to include it.
It’s the scarf that really isn’t working. Ok, it’s the jacket too. Maybe if the jacket were more fitted and a little longer, it might work, but this does not work. The scarf is a circle scarf, but it looked even worse as a circle with this jacket.
Well, you win some, you lose some. The good news is, there are six other styles.
Denim Jack: Goodwill, Scarf: Kohl’s.
Which do You Like Best?

How creative! I love the mustard sweater! Style # 3 is my fave.
Well, I just love this post because I have the same dress! I remember you telling me that you had it – it looks awesome on you! It has actually surprised me how little I wear it… I think this post was good motivation for me! Thanks!
okay i love this dress, i love how you styled it.. again again.. i need more help with staple pieces..
Love this, I might have to steal this idea just to get more creative with some of my dresses. My favorite is the one with the mustard color sweater. I love the pop of color and the necklace in that one.

That dress is so fabulous versatile and you’ve styled it in so many fun ways!
So cute! I like the one with the black jacket best!

Oh! They’re all super cute, but I think #3 is my favorite!
My favorites are four and five
I really need to get on this Chambray shirt bandwagon because they look so GOOD every time I see one! Love it with that dress!
So cute! Number 5 is my favorite! I love a good owl sweater.
I like the dress with the yellow carigan the best bc I love the pop of color!

What a great post!
I really like the version with the vest! And I agree about the denim jacket/scarf combo. Though I love wearing outfits like that, that particular one didn’t work!
cute! I love style 2 and 5, completely opposite….work and casual! stopping by from wiww.
That dress is darling and so flattering on you. I love the different ways you styled it. I think the yellow cardi and colorful necklace might be my favorite though. Thanks for sharing this great wardrobe staple! Gotta love Target!
Cute! Love all the combos! #3 and #4 are my faves!
You are so super cute!!I love #7 I totally think it works! I also love #4 and #6.
I saw a commercial last night and there were all sorts of printed, colorful pants and it made me think of you.
You are beautiful! #2, 4, 6 are my favs.
I like #2.
OMG you are adorable. and that last outfit TOTALLY works. I like the vest one too. I’m not so much a fan of the owl sweater over the dress… although the sweater is adorbs. I think you look amazing in all of them, and I could have NEVER found 7 looks for one dress. YOU GO!
Thanks Jo-Lynne! I appreciate your opinion. You always do a fabulous job of looking put-together and pretty. Thank you for stopping by.
I love mixing up the way I wear different pieces of my wardrobe!
oh noooooooooo.. my fave’s one is the vest!! i love vest! especially those with the hood..
if you dont like it.. send it to meeeeeeeeeeeee…
Not the top half of me!
You are a woman of many talents! Funnily enough, I like the last one best. You’re so lucky you can wear horizontal stripes – I would look like the side of a house – ha!
If you looked like the side of a house, it would be the really small, tiny side. I’ve seen pictures of you. If I can get away with stripes, so can you!
Okay, you know what? I wouldn’t mind one bit if you decided to ship that owl sweater to me.
I love it! I really like the mustard with the stripes, too!
Isn’t it great? My daughter gave me the owl sweater for Christmas and I love it!
Arn’t you the smartest woman! I like dress 2 and 4 the best
Well, to be honest, I’ve had this dress since September and I generally only wear it one way. It wasn’t until last week that I got to thinking I should find more ways to wear it. So, I’m not that smart! Or, maybe it just takes me a while.
I like 1,4, and 7. We are finally getting Target this fall!!!!!!!! Woohoo!
You like 7? Really?? I guess there are a few of you who do. Well, I couldn’t be happier for you. Target is a wonderful addition! I love that store.
I love the first four outfits. The last one would work if you had a really long scarf that you could loop around your neck and then let it hang down below the front of the jacket. Think big RED floral or print.
Sue, I think you’re right about that scarf. I tired this one because I thought the red might work, but it just wasn’t the scarf. Good idea! You’re a pretty smart lady.
#2.
No, #3.
No, no – #7.
Nope – going with #2 for dressy and #3 for casual. Cuz’ I’m decisive like that.
I had to go back up and look, so I could remember which were #2 & #3. I like those too. I will wear both. I’m with you on #7. It’s terrible, but I tried.
I’m loving the chambray shirt! I never would have thought of that combo.
Really? You wouldn’t have thought chambray?? Yay! I’m proud of myself now.
Honestly, I only thought of it because I see other bloggers wearing chambray with EVERYTHING. I actually wore it like that last Saturday.
i LOVE LOVE LOVE those — #3 & #7 are my FAVE!!!!!!!
Another vote for #7? I can’t believe it.
Thank you Aimee. This was fun to put together.
The second one is my favorite and I must say you are really looking good.
Thanks Sydney. I appreciate it.
Fabulous dress, fabulous outfits. I’d wear them all! If you twist my arm, #7 might be my fav.
Please, tell me it’s not true. You can’t like #7!
Thank you. I’d wear them all too, minus 7.
#3 is my favorite. I’d like #4 better if it was a bolder color, like a jewel-tone. Very creative! Will you come dig through my closet now?
Oh, it would be so fun to dig through other people’s closets. I’d love it. It would be like playing dress up! I like jewel tones too, but I don’t have any in cardigans.
I like #1 and #4!
Thanks Stacey. I honestly never wear the dress like #1. I feel stark naked. It’s so form-fitting and I’m not used to it. So, I feel too self-conscious to wear it to Walmart, but I don’t feel too self-conscious to plaster it across the internet. Go figure. My mind works in mysterious (think crazy) ways.
You’re not going to like it, but I like 7 the best!
Janna, for real? Well, you are not alone in that thought, but honestly, I don’t think I’d wear it out. Sorry.
Liked them all. I think the last one would have done better if the dress were just one shade through, but the individual items go well together and looks like a look I would wear!
Cherie, yes. You’re probably right about the last one. Oh, well. You win some, you lose some.
Super cute! I really like #4 and #7, you have great taste!
Thank you Jennifer. My son would disagree. He thinks I wear crazy dresses.
