Friends, today is the day. Carpe Diem and all that.
We can talk about making your own laundry soap and cutting the cord on cable TV. We can be martyrs in a world of spending and make do with what we have.
We can even save on love with a bunch of cheap date night ideas, but all the money-saving talk in the world won’t do us any good unless we do it.
Like Nike used to say, Just Do It!
Today is the day to begin saving. Today is the day to start living for less. Today is the day to end mindless spending like Ruth talked about in her 31 day series.
Today is the day to start writing out that needs list, so we can end impulse spending once and for all.
But first, I have to ask. What’s holding you back?
Maybe it’s the need to keep up with the mysterious and always elusive Joneses, or perhaps it’s the work. Spending is the easy part. Saving takes some work.
Maybe for you, it’s just too many bad habits for too long. Is it time to retrain the brain?
How about starting small? Sometimes it’s easier if we take one thing and focus on that until we get it mastered, until it becomes a habit – like couponing or gardening. Talk a friend into helping and save together. Keep each other accountable and have some fun. Saving isn’t a death sentence. You can still live, have a blast, and enjoy life to the fullest. Every once in a while, you can even splurge. Just not too often.
Now, if you even have the tiniest bit of nerd hidden away somewhere deep inside of you, you are going to love this TED Talk. The speaker suggest that perhaps our language may determine how well we save or do not save money. SO interesting!
You’ve gotta watch it. Embrace the nerd. I promise it won’t hurt.
No go forth and save!

Great post! You’re like the female version of Dame Ramsey. It’s really nice to be debt free. I just paid off all my medical bills and am starting a savings fund soon.

Holiday savings or just recurring transfers are always a good trick to saving. Even if it’s 15 dollars, if it can go directly into a savings account you won’t feel it. Love all of your posts!
