When my daughter was really young, her favorite movie was Finding Nemo. She would watch it again, and again, and again, until I began rooting for the little red-head with pigtails and braces.
In fact, she liked the movie so much I made her a quilt with Nemo printed fabric.
I know, a quilt! Who would have thunk it?
I was on a super-charged creative kick when my kids were small. I think it was my escape from the world of sippy cups and gold-fish crackers. Real quilters would get a good chuckle out of my toddler throw blanket, but even if my corners aren’t straight, they are sewed well. Ten years and five hundred thousand washings later, this little quilt doesn’t have one fraying seam. It’s the crown jewel of my sewing days.
My favorite character from Finding Nemo is Dory.
Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming….just keep swimming.
Now, Dory may be a little loony, but she’s one smart fish.
Sometimes life throws a bunch of stuff at you and you begin to feel like a child playing in the surf who got rolled under a big wave. All he can see is sand and water and brown. He doesn’t know which way is up. He needs to just keep swimming and so do we.
I’ve been away from blogging for almost a month and didn’t think it would be so hard to find my groove again, but I got rolled in a wave. All I’m seeing is sand and water and I’m not quite sure which direction to swim.
My time and my heart are being pulled in too many directions.
So, for today, I’m going to keep swimming. I’ll swim until there’s a clearing in the murk, until I begin to see some light shining through.
Oh, and for those of you who remember Hot Shot, the fish who came at the high price of free, well, she’s swum on to cleaner waters.
When my husband and kids came down to Georgia for a week, they forgot to get a fish sitter. They did, however, remember to bring the rabbit with them, so they get points for keeping the bunny alive on the road.
One out of two isn’t so bad.
