Welcome Sarah! *********************************************************************************** For the past several weeks I’ve been racking my brain for the best possible story of faith to share with you lovelies.  And then, after I wore my brain out, I decided to seek after God, knowing He’s going to remind me of that really great time when I lost all hope and then He came through.   Or I saw no … [Read more...]

31 Days of Living by Faith, Day 17 – When it Doesn’t Make Sense

fall colors and cloudy sky on the horizon

Sometimes living by faith does not make good sense. God does not use our logic. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.  ~ Isaiah 55:8-9 Living by faith is not just about doing things that appear to be right. It is about being still, listening for God to speak, and then obeying His voice one small step at a time.  God doesn't always ask us to take great leaps of faith.  Sometimes He just wants baby steps. I have … [Read more...]

31 Days of Living by Faith, Day 16 – Faith for the Small Things

queen ann's lace

Sometimes it is easier to have faith for the big, life-altering stuff than it is for the small things. I can trust God to provide a vehicle for my family, but hesitate to trust him for a five dollar field trip fee for my daughter. Is it just me or do you have trouble with the ordinary, every day things of faith too? It isn't difficult to have faith that your two year-old will one day grow into a productive member of society who loves God and other people, but it is downright hard to have faith that those little every day corrections will help him become that man, especially when it … [Read more...]

31 Days of Living by Faith, Day 15 – Faith Fights

fall landscape and home, foliage

Faith Fights And what shall I more say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, and Jephthah, about David and Samuel, and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength, and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign enemies.  ~ Hebrews 11:32-34 In a world where political correctness rules supreme, fighting is unacceptable; however, the Bible says we are in a battle and it tells … [Read more...]

31 Days of Living by Faith – Day 10 – A Dream Come True

31 days of living by faith - a dream come true

I had a dream. Now don't go thinking I am getting all cooky on you, because I am not.  My dreams are the result of an overactive imagination and fifty milligrams of Benadryl before bed. I mean, the other day I dreamed I was a college professor who was also an accomplice to murder.  The only good thing in the dream is that I was well-dressed, wearing high-heeled leopard print shoes and a pencil skirt. If you are going to help kill someone in your dreams, at least imagine yourself in leopard print heels.  Trust me. Once I had a dream that our car died.  Normally I would blow it off … [Read more...]

31 Days of Living by Faith, Day 9 – Find Your Mustard Seed

Photograph in Park with Bible Verse

Life is hard.  Some days it is really, really hard. We live in a sin-sickened world where things are getting worse and not better.  If you want to be depressed, just click over to CNN or better yet, check the newsfeed on your facebook account. Bad things happen.  Sometimes they even happen to good people. One day a friend of mine babysat my kids.  They were toddlers at the time, but my son had already picked up my sayings.  Kids act like little parrots and repeat you at the worst time possible.  Something happened and my son told my friend, "Life's not fair." I guess he heard me … [Read more...]

31 Days of Living by Faith, Day 8 – A Ten Thousand Dollar Prayer

leaves

"I am praying for ten thousand dollars."  My husband said. "Don't you think that is an extravagant request?"  I asked. "Absolutely not.  We are working hard, doing God's will, we are obedient to His leading and we really need ten thousand dollars.  So, I am praying for it." My husband was praying for the ten thousand dollars.  I was not.  For some reason, I think it is perfectly fine to have faith for groceries, but not for cold, hard cash. Every day my husband came home and asked, "Did my ten thousand dollars come?" "Nope!"  I said this in the same way I say "I told you … [Read more...]

31 Days of Living by Faith, Day 7 – A Baby Named Faith

Missionaries in Portugal

Today's guest is Nina in Portugal.  She and her family are missionaries who hold a special place in my heart.  Not many of you probably know this, but my father is Portuguese, so we had a connection from the moment we met.  I did run into Nina in blogland...I'm not sure how that happened, but I am glad it did. Today she shares her story of Faith, her baby Faith. ****************************************************************************************** Fairly new in our faith and even newer in parenthood, we left the secular world and began our journey in the ministry.  After … [Read more...]

31 Days of Living by Faith, Day 5 – Faith Takes Obedience

inspirational quote

It was time to sell our house and it nearly broke my heart.  I loved our house like I haven't loved any other home I have ever lived in.  It was part of who I am, who I would be in the future. It may seem strange to talk about a home like it is a member of my family, but this little, broken-down old house changed us.  It was the glue that cemented our marriage together.  It taught us how to save money, work until we collapsed, and join forces to get something done.  It was so much more than insulation, nails, and sheetrock.  It was part of the foundation of our little family. God … [Read more...]

31 Days of Living by Faith, Day 4 – A Good Luck Charm

bird on a wire I wanted to carry hope around in my pocket. Hand written saying.

There is a fine line between faith and foolishness. When I was a kid, I never had a good luck charm, but I always wanted one.  I was a little envious of the kid who pulled a rabbit's foot out of his pocket on test day.  I mean, that is just plain, old, cool-beans. I wanted to carry hope around in my pocket. Not that I thought the rabbit was lucky; I mean, the rabbit did not make it after all.  Even my eight year-0ld self knew that. Sometimes I thought I could get a pair of lucky socks or a magical pencil that only picked the correct answer on multiple choice questions, because … [Read more...]

31 Days of Living by Faith, Day 2 – What is Faith?

rings in water, serene photo, what is faith

What is faith? According to Dictionary.com, it is defined as "confidence or trust in a person or thing". Allow me to further define "faith" in a Biblical sense. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  ~Hebrews 11:1 Faith is believing God. at all costs no matter what when He does not make sense when everyone else thinks you are wrong when God does not "seem" to be right when the odds are against you when the going is tough when you cannot see past your pain when all is lost when you are on top of the world when you know … [Read more...]

Looking Back, Looking Ahead

31 Days of Living by Faith Monday is coming fast.  Are you ready?  I'm not sure I am.  I've never had butterflies in my stomach over my blog before.  Now it's like all the butterflies in the world landed in my stomach.  My daughter says in the winter they go to Texas, but I disagree.  They come to me. We're going to hear from some really fabulous guests over this next month.  It won't just be me doing the talking, but I must admit, I will be doing most of the talking.  We will hear from an author...maybe you've read one of her books, a missionary, a pastor's wife, a young women just … [Read more...]

Some Make it Beautiful: DIY

others make a place beautiful 3

SOME PEOPLE LOOK FOR A BEAUTIFUL PLACE OTHERS MAKE A PLACE BEAUTIFUL Isn't that so true? Now, granted, some of us do a better job making our places beautiful than others.  Beauty is in the eye (and pocketbook) of the beholder.  I do not do nearly as good a job as most people, but I am working on it, one mediocre project at a time.  And that's ok.  I am good with it. Pinterest is a pretty fabulous place.  Not only can we look at the best of the beautiful and be inspired, but we can take that inspiration and add a little beautiful to our own corner of the world. I ran across THIS PROJECT on … [Read more...]

No Fear in Love

no fear in love Bible verse printable.

My birthday in mid-February marked the beginning of the roller-coaster of love. By the end of the month FringeMan, in his casual and laid-back way, dragged me into a jewelry store to determine which shape diamond I would want if at any time in the near future he may be in the market for buying diamonds. I stood at the jewelry case looking in at little rocks throwing prisms of light in every direction. While there sparkles captivated my being, my hands began to sweat and my heart beat out the rhythm of a tribal chant. I felt as if I were about to be thrown in the pot of boiling water and … [Read more...]
