FringeKid received a sizable gift card to Kohl’s for Christmas. I’m always thankful for family who bless my kids with nice Christmas gifts. I really do appreciate them.
As soon as she opened her gift card, she said, “I want you to get something too.”
And she meant it.
FringeKid and I have a little tradition in Kohl’s. Every time we get to go shopping there, I always split whatever money I have with her. We each scour the clearance racks, including the jewelry clearance rack and walk away with something fabulous.
Usually we only go in the store with fifteen or twenty bucks, so we work to dig a treasure out of the 80% off clothes.
That’s why she insisted I get something on this shopping trip. It’s kind of a tradition for us.
As soon as we walked into the store, she spotted this owl sweater, ran over and grabbed it. She gave it to me for Christmas and I love it.
Sweater: Kohl’s, Pants: Sonoma brand from Kohl’s, Necklace: Charming Charlies
My hair blew up over my head. That’s why it looks cooky on top.
Anyway…I’ve had this sweater for years. It’s kind of gross with all the pimples on it, but I love how comfortable it is. I call it my grandpa sweater. One of the seams is coming apart at the wrist, but it will make through this winter.
Sweater: Target (old), T-shirt: Hand-me-Down, Jeans: Kohl’s, Boots: Dr. Marten Becca Engineer boot.
I found this tutorial on Pinterest for turning an old sweater into a circle scarf and boot socks. Just so happens I had an old sweater in my closet. I’ve had this sweater for years and I don’t know where it came from. I didn’t buy it, so it must have been a hand-me-down. Although it fit me, it never looked right. I think it would work better on a tall, thin woman, but not so much on my shape.
It was so easy to turn the sweater into a circle scarf and boot socks. I simply cut off the arms and made leg warmers. Then I cut the torso of the sweater right under the armpits.
Bam! A circle scarf.
No sewing involved. Pretty cool, huh?
Jeans: Same as above, T-shirt: Hand-me-down (I know you can see that I sewed a hole in the front of the shirt. I should probably trash it, but I won’t. I’ll wear it till summer and then I’ll think about trashing it.), Scarf and socks: Upcycled, Boots: Same as above.
That’s it. It’s what I wore this week, or at least what I remembered to photograph.

So the scarf (which I HEART!) is just basically the neck of the sweater?
Heather, No. The scarf is actually the body (torso) of the sweater. You cut straight across the sweater under the arms. So you end up cutting the entire top of the sweater off. The arms are used for the boot socks and the top (neck) is discarded. Does that make sense? If you click on the link in this post, you’ll see a graphic and then it will be easy to understand.

You wear such cool clothes. I’m a jeans and plain t-shirt kind of gal–boring. My 14 year old daughter really likes your glasses. She wears glasses too, and is also good with clothes. (She didn’t get it from me). Really like the idea of sharing the money with your daughter and vice versa.
Aaaw, such a pretty owl sweater! The first combination with the owl sweater would be perfect for spring too.
love the first sweater! great idea with the boot socks!

I’ve done the DIY circle scarf before, but never the boot socks/legwarmers…what a cool idea.

OK, so now I’m going to leave my PC to immediately dig through my old sweater box. That idea is GENIUS!!! Thanks so much for sharing it.
I know! So simple. Why didn’t I think of this in the fall? Thank God for Pinterest.
Cute graphic sweater! You look great! I did something similar with an old scarf recently – just tied the fringe together and cut it off – bam – circle scarf!
Thank you Ashley. I have a fringy scarf…I should try that. Thanks for the idea.
I love your owl sweater, especially the sweet sentiment behind it. And your sweater turned scarf/boot socks is awesome! I am definitely going to raid my own closet to see if there’s a candidate for cutting up. Thanks for sharing!
My kiddo did good with owl sweater. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on it. It’s different and fun. I’ve been wearing it a lot.
Hey! Love it! You do great putting it together.:)
Thanks Dani Joy.

Love the way you recycled the old sweater! It’s so easy in our throwaway society to just throw things away. Good on you DF
Very true. We do live in a throwaway society. I really try to wear stuff out before I toss it.
It just so happens that I have an old sweater lying around as well. Need to make it a scarf.
Loving this owl sweater!!! Sooo cute!
