I’m pretty sure my kids thought the world was ending this morning. I made breakfast on a school day and it was full of sugar and all things good.
Normally a weekday breakfast in our house looks like a bowl of cereal, microwaved oatmeal, or toast with peanut butter. I’m not a morning person and I don’t pretend to be one. My kids know that. They’ve been fixing their own breakfast for as long they’ve been able to use a toaster. I sit close by, sip coffee, and remind them to brush their teeth.
Yup. No mother of the year award for me.
I do love breakfast though, so on the weekends, I am always sure cook us up a yummy brunch. Sometimes I even make enough pancakes to last the week; however, last night I decided to let this morning’s love look like a cinnamon bun waffle.
You’ve probably seen someone already do this, but I figured I’d share this fancy recipe anyway.
You need: One can of Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls and a Waffle Iron.
Heat up your waffle iron and place two buns side-by-side. Cut the third bun in half and place half under the other two. It should look like a very snug smiley face. Then drop the lid and cook away.
Wah-la! A cinnamon bun heart waffle.
Spread some icing over the top and you’re done.
I guarantee you’ll be mom-of-the-day in your kid’s eyes.

Okay, I gave this a go and it was a disaster! Any thoughts on what I might have done wrong? I used the exact same cinnamon rols, greased the waffle iron, everything. It was frustrating because my Sweetboy LOVES him some cinnamon rolls. Will have to try again – these look adorable!

I did not do anything special. I have a pretty basic waffle iron. I sprayed it with Pam and just slapped the cinnamon rolls on. I held it down for a a few seconds until it really began cooking and that’s it. Seriously. My eyes were barely even open. What happened to yours? You didn’t ice them before you put them in the waffle iron, did you?
I wondered if the cinnamon/butter chips were maybe burning on the iron because they ended up being charred and inedible when I took them out. I’ll give them a go again this weekend. I’m sure you’ll be waiting with baited breath. Maybe it was a bad batch of cinnamon rolls?

I think, maybe, just be careful how long you are cooking them. The pan is a bit of a pain to clean after, because of the cinnamon/sugar burned in, but I just used paper towels to get in the cracks. Good luck! Hope they work out for you.
Ah, I will have that Sunday for breakfast!

I love the heart shaped idea! I’ve made these before, but they weren’t nearly so cute. Cleaning up the waffle iron afterwards is a bit of a hassle, but one I’m willing to tolerate for a quick, yummy breakfast.
